The German Railways (Deutsche Bahn AG) have adopted Getac's rugged S410 notebooks to manage and enhance operational workflows in train maintenance. This supply was facilitated by IT-HAUS GmbH, a company based in Föhren near Trier, Germany, which won the tender to equip DB with these advanced technologies.
Getac's S410 notebooks were specifically chosen for their ruggedness and reliability, crucial for train overhaul, general inspection, maintenance, and repair operations. These devices help minimize train downtime thanks to their ability to support digitalization and automation processes. In cases of system failures, damage, or accidents, the notebooks enable quick train restoration, further reducing downtime.
The S410 devices are also used for automated reporting and documentation, regular monitoring of safety equipment, and performing complex inspection tasks. With these notebooks, service technicians can work on different trains with various systems, generate reports for trains involved in accidents, and read systems in use at workshops.
A key aspect of the S410 notebooks is their reliability in challenging working conditions, both inside workshops and outdoors, across a wide range of weather conditions. These devices feature easy-to-read displays, backlit keyboards, and multiple connections such as RS232 and RJ45, essential for controlling engines or detecting faults under and inside trains. Deutsche Bahn particularly values the intervention procedure for unexpected failures. The Hot Swap service from IT-HAUS and the Getac Self-Maintainer program ensure reduced downtime, ensuring effective operational continuity.
Getac S410 notebooks offer additional advantages for Deutsche Bahn, including automatic reporting of train component conditions directly to maintenance workshops and automatic supply of spare parts. The digital diagnostics and integrated inspection systems in the Getac devices further support Deutsche Bahn personnel more efficiently, reducing their workload.
Eric Yeh, Managing Director of Getac Technology GmbH, stated, "We are very proud to support Deutsche Bahn with our rugged computing solutions. Our S410 notebooks are extremely powerful and reliable, very user-friendly, and enable a high degree of digitalization, thanks also to 5G technology. They are ideal for remaining operational without issues in challenging environments, making them particularly suitable for performing the complex tasks required in this sector."
