Three leading players in the air freight sector revealed their plan to establish a global alliance during the Transport Logistic fair in Munich, within the dedicated Air Cargo Europe area. The alliance, which will become operational by the end of 2025, brings together Qatar Airways Cargo, IAG Cargo and MASkargo in an effort to redefine international cargo logistics. The initiative aims to develop an integrated network capable of offering greater flexibility in routing, expanded cargo capacity and seamless connectivity between Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, Europe and the Americas. The goal is not only to improve the current service offering but also to open new trade routes that are inaccessible through traditional individual bookings.
During the press conference in Munich, representatives from the three companies highlighted that the value of the alliance lies in offering customers flight combinations that were previously unimaginable, enhancing the efficiency of connections and creating new opportunities for cargo traffic in regions that were not directly served before. In its initial phase, the alliance will focus on key markets, with a view to gradually expanding to other countries as authorisations are obtained.
Operationally, the project involves the progressive alignment of IT systems, commercial processes and service offerings. The three companies are working to provide an integrated package that will include advanced digital solutions, simplified products and even the unification of loyalty programmes, allowing customers to accumulate Avios points regardless of the carrier used within the alliance.
One of the main goals is to make better use of cargo capacity, both in dedicated freighter flights and in the bellies of passenger aircraft. This will improve network efficiency, enhance delivery times and offer greater flexibility in shipment management. Ground operations and road transport will also be harmonised to ensure a smoother experience for customers, from booking to final delivery.
Alongside the commercial aspects, the alliance also stands out for a significant humanitarian initiative. The three carriers announced their intention to sign individual agreements with the World Food Programme, the United Nations organisation dedicated to combating hunger. Together, they will offer a total of one thousand tonnes of free cargo capacity for the transport of food and essential humanitarian aid. The initiative, unveiled for the first time at Air Cargo Europe, reflects a shared commitment to contributing meaningfully to global causes, leveraging the logistical strength of the networks involved.
