With an investment of six million euros, Virtu Ferries has acquired a 24,000-square-metre site overlooking the port of Pozzallo from the Region of Sicily, marking a significant step in the development of the area's logistics infrastructure. The project, carried out in cooperation with the Regional Department for Land and Environment, aims to establish a logistics hub designed to strengthen commercial links between Sicily and Malta.
The new centre will serve as an access point for companies engaged in import-export activities between the two islands, offering infrastructure that will include a business centre, operational office space, parking for light vehicles, and designated areas for trailer layovers. Warehouses for goods storage will also be available, alongside accommodation facilities for industrial vehicle drivers. The stated goal is to enhance the efficiency of the Fast Track Cargo service and to provide customers with innovative logistics solutions capable of streamlining operations and accelerating flows.
Virtu Ferries operates in accordance with European Union regulations as an Authorised Regular Shipping Service and, thanks to the frequency of its connections and the quality of its services, it is also recognised as an Essential Service. Founded in 1988 and based in Marsa, near Valletta, the company evolved from a group active since 1945 and has specialised in high-speed connections between Malta and Sicily, particularly between the ports of Valletta and Pozzallo, on which it operates over 1,500 voyages each year.
